Lithograph printed by Ars Italiae, conceived in 1927 and printed in 1957 under the supervision and approval of the artist, after Morandi’s original etching. Sheet: 392 × 287 mm; image: 279 × 218 mm. Printed on laid paper and preserved in the original folder. From a limited edition of 1,000, this example no. 107.
The print depicts one of Morandi’s most characteristic subjects and belongs to an important project undertaken in the 1950s to reproduce the artist’s celebrated etchings—many of which survived in only a few impressions—through high-quality lithographic editions. The process involved Morandi, a curator, the publisher, and several printing houses over several years. The resulting lithographs faithfully reproduce the size, detail, and aesthetic qualities of the original etchings. The edition was completed January 21, 1957, as indicated in the colophon.
Each print was issued in a refined laid paper folder listing the plate number, title, year of the original etching, image dimensions, and technical information.
Condition: excellent. The lithograph remains well preserved in its original folder, which shows only minor signs of handling. The print can easily be removed for framing.
Sale includes the 1957 lithograph and original folder (colophon not included). This piece has an attribution mark,
