Traveling to other locations meant … Read more Gleb was known to take the photos that other fashion photographers didn't want to risk. Traveling to other locations meant you might not know if you got the shot considering all these were taken on film. He was known to use toilet tanks to develop the film to be sure he had the shot before returning to NYC. I would imagine in Hawaii there may have been places to develop film but I am not sure how easily that was on the Big Island. this photo was taken in 1959 after his huge trip around the world the previous year where he dared to travel to 11 countries in 25 days. Avedon turned the opportunity down leaving it open to Gleb and his new bride, model Ruth Neumann, my mother. Carmen, Ruth, and Gleb were a triumphant trio!

These go beyond simple fashion prints. They are like family photos to me. Growing up my father took some amazing photos of my sister and me. I thought everyone had family photos like ours.

My father was a huge influence on my own art. Not so much in style but as an example of a successful artist.
