this moment at the Pied de Cochon restaurant in the old market at Les Halles in Paris captures all the joy of that long-ago springtime when Carmen Dell'Orefice and my Father Gleb Derujinsky had such fun working together for Harper's Bazaar for the 1957 spring collection.
Carmin is wearing Balmain's dotted organdy pin-wheel skirt and stunning lace bodice. The butcher was part of many wonderful published images. He kept peeking into photos and my dad told him either you're in or out. He decided to be part of the fun! That spontaneity is very much a part of the art Derujinsky brought to Bazaar and why his photos are so wonderful and charming!
The prints I am sharing for sale here are all part of his pursuit of a book that was not finished. It was hardly started before his unexpected death in 2011.
I picked up where he left off and honored his career as a fashion photographer. Capturing Fashion Derujinsky was published by Flamarrion in 2018. I spent 5 years collecting images, scanning negatives, and one day I was contacted by the publisher asking me to show the work. It was pure magic.
I am now sharing these single prints as I move on artistically. These are not fancy prints but they are printed by my Father and each is just one. I have a few lifetime silver gel prints also. More to come.
