Kutani porcelain is a type of glazed Japanese porcelain. The first pieces date from the mid-17th century and its production extends to the present day. Kutani porcelain became famous at an exhibition in 1873.

It is characterized by the technique of painting in a thickness of five colors (red, yellow, green, purple and dark blue) and reflecting the beauty of nature, mostly flowers and birds, on a large part of its surface. There are pieces distributed all over the world, but the most important ones are kept in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the National Museum in Tokyo. See less
