The text, in English, includes essays by French artists and writers, including Jean-Paul Sartre, Ambroise Vollard, Paul Valery, Andre Gide and others. The final section is a study of the 1452 Book of Hours of Etienne Chevalier, with 11 tipped in color plates. Folio in stiff paper boards, in the original slipcase, with the slipcase title printed in black and a gilt highlighted, color illustration from the 'Book of Hours' laid down at the front cover, 14 x 10 1/2".
