Custer, a portrait, animal, and landscape painter (Switzerland/American, New Hampshire. 1837-1881). It is a charming oil on board of a young girl with her wagon and doll going to visit her friend who is holding a cat. The highly detailed foilage and botantials and use of color in the painting are exceptional and typical of Custer's work. The painting is signed and dated 1873 lower left. Custer studied art in Europe and exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum, the National Academy of Design and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Purchased in 1998, the frame was regilded at that time. The frame and painting are in very good condition and it is ready to hang on the wall. See less
