Framed


An intense, strongly-worked painting intergrated with collage materials. Deep reds and oranges soak into the rumpled, textured surface, the figure curves across the picture frame and the face stares out, full of yearning. A really wonderful painting from this avidly collected artist.


In artist’s vintage frame. This group of works were acquired from a studio sale by the artist’s estate. As working drawings, experiments and artist’s proofs, many bear traces of age, staining or marking, consistent with studio practice, all apparent in the images.



Nan Frankel began painting late in life, living in St Ives for 20 years up until her death. She produced a large and impressive body of work, which was characterised by a fresh, often joyous and vigorous approach. Her subjects ranged from nudes to landscapes and her oeuvre encompassed not only painting but also monoprints and lithographs. This piece has an attribution mark,
