Andrea Boscoli was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, born in Florence was apprenticed to Santi di Tito (1536 - 1602). The author of the drawing is the Florentine Andrea Boscoli (1564 - 1608), who executed this work during his youthful trip to Rome, between 1582 and 1586, a period in which he was also admitted to the Academy of Art. The drawing depicts the exchange of money between Roman soldiers. Behind the soldiers is a crowd, while a basket is visible at their feet. On the right of the drawing next to the horse are some characters wearing turbans. This may suggest that the scene in the drawing is set in the Middle East.
