This charming antique tribal storage bag displays a bold and highly decorative geometric design characteristic of the nomadic weaving traditions of Northwest Persia and Eastern Anatolia. The bag is woven in richly saturated shades of madder red, aubergine, deep indigo, ivory, emerald green, saffron yellow, and rose, all harmoniously balanced against a dark wine-colored ground.
The front features a series of large stepped geometric medallions arranged in vertical panels, creating a powerful tribal composition. The motifs are enclosed within colorful borders filled with small geometric devices and protective symbols traditionally associated with prosperity, protection, and tribal identity. The drawing is crisp, highly graphic, and unmistakably nomadic in character.
The interior retains its original wine-red flatwoven ground decorated with narrow bands of small multicolored tribal motifs, an unusual and attractive detail seldom preserved in surviving examples. The bag maintains its original pouch form, demonstrating its utilitarian function while preserving its artistic appeal.
Why It Is Special
What makes this piece especially appealing is its vibrant natural dyes, strong geometric drawing, and excellent state of preservation. The bold stepped motifs and jewel-like color palette create a striking visual impact, while the original interior decoration adds an additional layer of authenticity rarely encountered in tribal bags of this age. The weaving has a highly personal and spontaneous quality, reflecting the creativity of the nomadic weaver rather than workshop production.
This is the type of tribal textile that appeals to collectors because of its decorative strength, compact size, and complete original character. Its colorful design, excellent condition, and genuine tribal craftsmanship make it an attractive example of late 19th-century nomadic weaving art.
