Its hallmark design is comprised of closely ridged prisms that provide a combination of up-light and down-light to illuminate evenly without creating dark spots or glare. This was probably made by their US manufacturer in Ohio.

We believe this fixture is circa 1940. The name Holophane is cast on the top rim of the globe The glass itself is a thing of beauty, and this fixture creates a substantial presence. We proudly had it on our own large, wrap=around porch for a number of years; it could be seen from a block away for the lovely shape it presents. We have had many Holophane fixtures over the years, and this one is exceptional.

This light is unusually large and wonderfully engineered, with the idea to create evenly refracted light in the glass without dark spots. The glass comes in two parts, held together with clips and a center rod that runs through to the bottom tip of the glass bowl. What you see as a white area in the bottom of the lower bowl is caused by a solid white 3rd piece of glass inside called a reflector.

The glass is 14" in diameter and 13.5" tall. The nickeled brass globe holder is 6"wide and 5" tall. The complete fixture is 18.5" tall. It has been fully rewired and socketed and is ready to install. See less
