Antique bronze caste iron sculpted elephant incense burner.
Elephant is found to be kneeling ceremoniously. Burning incense in this particular vessel would lend itself to the meditation of humility. The elephants pose is submissive, encouraging a poised reflection.
There is a photo of the item in as is uncleared, first found condition when it was first made its way to the states. It was found in a building ruin in the 1980s by a US Marine in Thailand. Upon cleaning layer of accumulated debris and inspection appraisal determined to be at least close to two hundred years old if not older.
Obvious evidence of bronze is when lifted- legs.
Condition incredible no breakage of vulnerable extremities. No damage anywhere. There is evidence of oxidation, patina and a fixed layer of discoloration in crevices that is a musky grey-green.
Wonderful antique that could easily be used today as a small planter or an incense burner.
No incense oil odor remains presently.
