Pair of neoclassical figural candelabra in silvered and gilt bronze designed by the French author, essayist and artist,
Judith Gautier (1845-1917), signed and dated 1886, depicting nude female and male aside a flowering tree with bats and birds.
Known among her friends and contemporaries as the La Belle Judith, she was a muse of writers and artists such as Victor Hugo to Richard Wagner, an admired novelist and essayist, recognized for introducing Asian literature and culture to the social circles of Paris in the late 19th century.
