Antique 19th Century English Nocturne Stormy Seascape with Boat, Framed. Nocturne seascape with a spotlight ‘chiaroscuro’ effect of a boat in a storm. This painting has a stylized feel to the composition that is unusual for paintings during this era. Housed in a patinated gilt frame (most likely not the original frame). The painting has been restored and relined. It is attached to the original stretchers bars. Acrylic conservation hardboard is placed en verso (this prevents future punctures/rips in the canvas). Relined canvas is attached with wax to the stretcher bars. In good condition with wear consistent with age. Fine craquelure to the surface of the canvas. Please refer to the photos for details.
