William Goliasch was a Swiss painter born in 1922 and died in 1986. He is best known for his winter landscape works, but also produced abstract paintings and still lifes.
He began painting in the 1940s. He exhibited for the first time in 1950 at the Galerie Saint-Gervais in Geneva. Subsequently, he continued to exhibit regularly in Switzerland, but also in France and Germany.
Goliasch is considered an artist of modern art. His technique consists of meticulous work with the material, which allows him to create effects of light and texture. He mainly uses cold colors like blue, purple and white, which reinforces the icy atmosphere of his winter landscapes\.
His work is highly prized by lovers of modern and contemporary art. His unique style, which combines meticulousness in the material and the use of cold colors, has allowed him to be recognized in Switzerland and beyond.
This work of art is a striking painting that captures an intimate moment with remarkable skill. The image depicts a woman seen from behind, naked, crouching on the edge of a sink, washing herself. The scene is simple, but the emotion it conveys is profound, reflecting the vulnerability and beauty of the human body in its everyday movements. The brushstrokes are vigorous and expressive, creating rich textures and fascinating color contrasts. The use of blue and gray tones gives the whole a tranquil and reflective atmosphere, while the bright red accents in the woman's scarf add a note of liveliness and energy. The lighting is carefully modulated, highlighting the curves and contours of the female body with a delicacy that emphasizes both strength and fragility. The simplified tiles on the background wall help to anchor the scene in a tangible reality while allowing the main subject to stand out clearly. This painting stands out for its ability to make the mundane extraordinary, offering new perspectives on personal rituals. The artist demonstrates a deep understanding of the human form and light, inviting the viewer to contemplate and appreciate the subtly beautiful moments of everyday life.
