Causse was born on January 28, 1869 in Bourges, France. He studied under the esteemed sculptors Alexandre Falguière and Agathon Léonard in Paris, and later began exhibiting at the Salon des Artists Francais from 1888 to 1913, obtaining honorable mentions in 1882 and 1900 and a third class medal in 1893. He also took part in the Exposition Universelle of 1900. This particular lamp, one of the largest he ever made, is called "La Rose" and was made in 1885.

The artistry of the sculptor is notable in the rendering of the folds of the dress and the graceful twist of the figures and tendril like stems, which suggests dynamism and movement. Its asymmetrical, sinuous line, creates multiple possibilities for viewings the piece.

The glass shades, shaped as stylized tulip corollas, are a work of art in themselves with a harmonious use of colors that recalls dawn in a milky sky of clouds. See less
