The resulting ribbons of fabric were then stitched together to create larger textiles, including blankets. The weaver's feet operate the heddles during the weaving process. This pulley from Mali is carved in a female form, which is unusual as many were created as males. In many cases, practical items with this level of decoration were given as gifts to great craftspeople. See less
