The design comes from the French animal cartoonist Benjamin Rabier (1864-1939). The motif is the duck Gédeon, one of Rabier's most famous characters, who chases after the snail, which is also frequently modeled.
Unfortunately, a prick has been lost over the last 90 years, but otherwise the gem is in perfect condition. This piece has an attribution mark,
