extraordinary french chandelier in the charles x style, made in the 19th century in france. Refined and exquisite, it is a two-arm or light chandelier made entirely of ormolú. It has a simple structure, as it is made up of a shaft from which the two lights emerge, topped by a laurel wreath. The two arms are dish-shaped to catch the paraffin that may come off the lit candle, as if they were two candlesticks. For its part, the base is circular and with high walls, shaped like a bowl. This type of chandelier is known as “bouillotte”, and they are the predecessors of the later “bouillotte lamps”. Bouillotte is a bluffing game considered one of the ancestors of poker. To illuminate the evening, candelabras were first used, to which a lampshade was later added, so that the light was even dimmer. Precisely, the base, in the shape of a bowl, was intended to receive the chips
ormolú is an alloy of bronze and gold gilded with mercury. After being cast, it is chiseled to achieve the small details that add realism to the piece.
