The history magazine and book publisher American Heritage began Horizon: A Magazine of the Arts as a hardback bi-monthly in September 1958. The editor was Joseph J. Thorndike, Jr., with James Parton as publisher.
The magazine was hardcover up until 1977, and I have all the hardcover issues (1958-1977), in excellent condition. Listing just the first year to start. There are minimal defects or discolorations on these magazines, as they have been stored on a shelf in a closet, away from the sun. July 1959 issue has some aging on the edge, which may be from having been read (see photo). The spines all lined up on a shelf look gorgeous!
It seems odd to call them "magazines", as they are all hard cover bound, like books.
