Patina Perfection!! A rare and most impressive Italian hand carved and painted faux Verona Rosso marble top table with beautifully aged heavily distressed patina.
Born in Italy in the early 20th century, hand-crafted in elegant and luxurious Neo-classical Louis XVI taste, featuring a notched rectangular shaped single board top with highly sophisticated trompe-l'œil marbleized finish.
The exceptionally executed marbleizing effect is created by using a variety of faux painting techniques that only a handful of highly skilled Italian artisans are ever taught, producing the very distinctive and varied patterns of marble, all in an effort to reproduce the vivid natural colors, rich veining and brilliant polished luster of a real rouge marble slab.
Mounted over a hand carved and distressed painted cream solid wood base, adorned with decorative paneled frieze embellished with brilliant sculpted and gilded garland swags and rosette medallion reliefs, rising on square fluted tapered legs. circa 1900
Dimensions (approx):
31" High, 72" Wide, 35" Deep
Having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a dining room table, library or center table, writing desk, kitchen island, oversized console, or placed in a palatial foyer as a stunning entry statement piece!
Condition:
The table is in great shape overall, especially considering its age. Strong, sturdy, stable and structurally sound, with highly desirable patina, enhanced by heavily worn, distressed, chippy paint finish. Paint losses, scattered scratches, chips, nicks and various imperfections add to the overall antique character, authenticity, and warm, rustic, European old world charm.
