the sinus line 170 pendant lamp represents a radical departure in the history of danish lighting design. Conceived in 1967 by a young architecture student, the lamp was the first from le klint to forgo pleated paper in favor of a revolutionary hand-folded pvc foil, forming a mathematically inspired structure based on sinusoids, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas.

design origins & influence:

the flowing geometry references sine waves and mathematical curves, giving the lamp a mesmerizing, rhythmic form.

crafted from a single folded sheet of plastic foil, its production was both minimal and technically advanced.

symbolic of the psychedelic and space-age design era of the late 1960s—its glowing sculptural silhouette evoked lunar landscapes and futuristic interiors.

precursor to the more spherical model 172, yet the 170 remains rarer and more angular in aesthetic.
