Herbert Léon Marcel Theurillat is a Swiss painter, engraver and designer, born in March 1896 in Saint-Imier and died in Collonge-Bellerive in December 1987.
Coming to settle in Geneva in 1919, he became a professor of composition at the city's Fine Arts in 1941. from 1951 to 1956, he was a member of the Federal Commission of Fine Arts.
In 1968, the city of Geneva organized and sponsored its “30 Years of Painting Retrospective” at the Rath Museum.
This work of art is a captivating impressionist painting, depicting a bucolic landscape imbued with serenity and charm. In the center of the composition, a modest house stands, sporting a bright red roof that immediately catches the eye, contrasting sharply with the lush green foliage surrounding it. This bold color choice for the roof gives the house an imposing presence in the scene. The beautifully detailed trees envelop the house, creating a natural setting that accentuates the peaceful atmosphere of the work. The lively, expressive brushstrokes add a lively texture to the entire painting, capturing light and shadow with remarkable mastery. The subtle play of colors and tones evokes a fleeting moment, probably on a beautiful summer day. A discreet fence runs along the stage, separating the spectator from the intimate space of the house's garden, while reinforcing the impression of distance from this haven of tranquility. The skillful use of perspective guides the eye through the winding path that stretches across the foreground, leading the viewer on a visual exploration that evokes both the beauty and simplicity of the countryside. In short, this work stands out for its ability to capture the very essence of a quiet moment in nature, thanks to a perfect harmony of colors and techniques. The artist manages to elegantly merge realism and abstraction, managing to evoke a feeling of nostalgia and contemplation in the mind of the viewer. This piece has an attribution mark,
