Markus Jenzer was born in 1926 in Bern, where he spent a large part of his life.
Originally a businessman with artistic inclinations, he had not systematically trained himself in painting until 1964. Inspired by impressionism, he devoted himself primarily to landscape painting. In the early 1970s, he worked as a painter. During numerous solo exhibitions, his paintings in the 70s and 80s met with great interest.
Furthermore, there is a change in his work. In numerous experiments he appeared through macro photography into the microscopic world of brushstroke and color structures and returned to the big screen with the discovery. Works from this period have been included.
Over the course of two decades, his non-representational painting developed to the point of symmetry. In the years 1992-2011, Markus Jenzer and his wife lived in the Lake Geneva region, where a large part of his symmetrical works were created, to which he was now exclusively devoted.
The meditative nature of these images and their meticulous elaboration required a high degree of concentration and a certain amount of retraction. So far, only a small part of the important late works has been made available to the public.
This captivating work, a winter landscape painting, masterfully illustrates the tranquility and beauty of a snow-covered village. The artist captured every detail with remarkable precision, from snow-covered rooftops to bare trees, creating an incredibly realistic and immersive scene. The landscape is dominated by large buildings with snow-covered roofs, aligned along a winding path which guides the viewer's gaze across the canvas. The shades of the cloudy skies are carefully graded, adding atmospheric depth and subtlety to the composition. The blue shadows on the snow and the reflections of morning or afternoon light show an impressive mastery of the play of light and shadow. It is evident that the artist has a deep understanding of nature and its seasonal variations. The trees, although waving in the cold, stand majestically and bring a sense of life and movement to an otherwise peaceful scene. The mix of textures between the thatched roofs, the snow-covered ground and the bare branches offers an unparalleled visual richness, encouraging the viewer to linger on each detail. The color palette, dominated by cold tones but lightly mixed with warm touches, suggests the warmth of the fireplaces hidden behind these imposing walls. This juxtaposition of outer cold and inner heat creates an interesting emotional tension, making this painting not only beautiful to look at, but also deeply emotional and connected to the human experience. In short, this work does not simply represent a winter landscape\.\.it invites the viewer to enter a scene where each element tells a story of times gone by, timeless nature and the serenity that are synonymous with rural winter scenes. It is a true tribute to the enduring beauty of nature and the artistic skill of its creator. Orginal frame
