Modern and minimalistic 'model 232' wall lamp designed by bruno gatta and manufactured by stilnovo in italy in 1954. The striking bowl-shaped shades rest on bended slim black painted metal arms. The white finished wall mounts give a nice contrast with the black. These are held in place by two visible screws. A nice design feature is that they look bold from the front but when viewed from the side they are super minimalistic. These versatile lamps can also be used as ceiling fixtures. Their neutral color scheme make that they go with any interior style. Easy to install on walls or ceilings thanks to gatta's clever hanging system, a strong feature of stilnovo designs.
bruno gatta was the director and head of design from stilnovo almost during the entire period. He founded the stilnovo publishing house in 1946 in lainate, an industrial suburb of milan. Despite its small scale, stilnovo operated according to a true industrial logic from 1952-1955 – unlike other italian brands, such as arredoluce and o’luce. Experimentation with new materials and shapes is at the heart of its production method. Until the second half of the 1960s, most of the designs were made by the company’s technical office, which was led by bruno gatta, then headed by gaetano scolari and bore the brand’s signature. Bruno gatta died in 1976 in his birthplace linate. These lamps are checked in our own atelier, cleaned and are suitable for use in the usa. For us usage we could change the plug or you can get a converter if needed for a floor or table lamp with transformer in it. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
