The lamp is of baluster form, with an applied foot, extensively intaglio cut with floral and geometric decoration, which has been selectively gilt, especially the flowers, to highlight edges and details. The lamp is capped with a dark, patinated bronze mount. It was produced c.1910.

dreyfous, active from the 1880s, was a royal-warranted retailer of fine furniture and antiques, and also commissioned objet d’art, which sometimes bore his signature. His flagship london shop was frequented by both queens alexandra and mary – several of dreyfous’ commissioned pieces are held in the royal collection.

the lamp has been carefully dismantled, cleaned inside and out, reassembled and sympathetically brought up to modern electrical safety standards with a british-made earthed patinated brass b22 lamp-holder with a safety switch feature, and a generous length of brand new 3-core cable with a period-correct ‘old gold’ braided sheath.
