It is a very … Read more Large French Post Impressionist oil painting on panel by listed Italian artist, Albert F Duprat 1882-1974. It is a very beautiful depiction of a view of gondoliers on a canal in Venice. The work is superbly painted with lovely light reflecting on the water and buildings. Title: 'Gondoliers on a Canal in Venice', signed lower left. Displayed in the original French Montparnasse gilt frame. Provenance: private French collection. Sight: 18" W x 24" H.

Duprat trained in Venice at the Venice Beaux Arts School and painted in the manner of his contemporaries Felix Ziem and Adolphe Bachmann. His work is also closely comparable to Antoine Bouvard. He also worked in Paris, painting bridges and the banks of the Seine River as well as Martigues, called the Provençal Venice of France because of its many canals.
