Antique Serapi Carpet in Antique Red, Light Blue and Salmon Colors. Keivan Woven Arts, Kbe-20.
Serapi rugs are known as the finest rugs produced in the Heriz region and its surrounding area. The central rich red/orange field of this piece features a cruciform medallion in navy blue, while pink floats freely among a lavish interior embellishment of sinuous vines. Undulating sky blue corner pieces fill out the field with elaborate arabesque detail and a complex 'turtle' vine-scroll border is set against a pale pink ground, providing an elegant yet dramatic frame. Minor vine-scroll borders echo the rust color of the field. Perhaps the most extraordinary quality of this antique Serapi is its square size, in stark contrast to the much larger scale customary for antique Serapi of this kind.
