An organically shaped Scandinavian outdoor facade lamp, model 283, produced by the Swedish lighting manufacturer Westal in the 1970s. It’s crafted from solid copper with a beautiful deep green patina and features a bud-shaped glass shade in a subtle purple hue. Designed to be mounted directly on the facade of a building with the attached metal fitting, it can also be used indoors as an eye-catching wall lamp. The Swedish lighting manufacturer Westal was founded in 1947 under the name Habo Elarmatur by inventor Holger Johansson. Initially, the company focused on indoor lighting for the domestic market, producing modernistic fixtures well-suited to contemporary tastes. In the 1960s, the company changed its name to Westal, inspired by the Vestal Virgins who tended the sacred fire in Ancient Rome. Around this time, the company shifted its focus to high-quality outdoor lighting. This piece has an attribution mark,
