This painting has its double in a larger format at the Antwerp Museum of Fine Arts in Belgium. This important subject in the career of this painter has been treated several times in different dimensions, including another at the Louvre Museum. Henri De Caisne painter of history, genre and portrait made an important reputation in the style of Lawrence. Many paintings are present in Versailles, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Mâcon, at the Carnavalet museum in Paris, the Mexico Museum, the Athens Museum. The whole has been completely cleaned and restored by our restorer approved by historic monuments. The frame is a very pretty example from the restoration period in stuccoed and gilded wood. The provenance is a very beautiful bourgeois house owned by Doctor Gardères in Pau. See less
