This is a Henkel … Read more The sumptuous wood grain of the mahogany radiates a warm reddish glow in the afternoon sunlight. This is a Henkel Harris mahogany queen-size bed, manufactured in June 1973 in Winchester, Virginia. As a 51-year-old bed, it is considered vintage and is not in perfect condition. The brass medallion on the right post of the footboard is missing (refer to picture 6). There is a metal brace on the right side of the footboard (refer to picture 6), which was added at some point to make the bed more stable. One of the rails has some roughness on both ends (refer to picture 7). I photographed the other end of this rail and can post it on here if you would like to see it. A small section of the veneer on the other rail is missing (refer to picture 8). Only the outer sides of the rails are veneered. The headboard and the footboard are made from solid mahogany. The back of the headboard is as beautiful as the front, typical of the majority of Henkel Harris beds (refer to pictures 10 and 11). There is a paper label and a stamp in the wood on the back of the headboard, showing that this bed was crafted in June 1973.

The two rails fit into the headboard and footboard by means of metal hooks that are inserted into the four slots. The tops of each post can be removed, each one consisting of the rounded finial and a round piece below it. This bed is very sturdy when assembled. I don't have any slats to support a mattress on the inside of the bed. These can be purchased separately.
