Handwoven … Read more This 3x6 vintage tapestry runner is a signed collectible from the mid-century Aubusson works of French artist Jean-Claude Bissery. Handwoven in wool and originating from France circa 1940-1950, it’s both a rare collectible and one of an exciting new curation of works from this artist in Rug & Kilim’s European rug and tapestry collection.

On the Design:

“Forestière” (which translates to “Forestry”) is an aptly named pictorial design, with an almost abstract impressionist depiction of teeming woodlife. A cream tone underscores both rich and vibrant colors in the illustration of trees, birds, branches and leaves in chartreuse green, golden yellow, raspberry red and oak brown. The marriage of such an idyllic natural setting and autumnal tones with such a graphic sense of dimensionality and boldness is exemplary of Bissery’s works, as well as the mid-century French Aubussons of his contemporaries known for their similar approaches to this iconic mid-century modern sensibility. It’s a masterpiece with striking detail for its construction, with a fabulous sense of whimsy and presence for any space—a true collector’s piece to be treasured.

Condition:
