Made from black … Read more A fantastic run of five 1960s pendant lights designed by nico kooy for raak, amsterdam, the netherlands. Made from black metal conical tubes in matt black with brushed aluminium shades. Each light has been professionally rewired using black 2-core braided cable and fit to the ceiling with chrome ceiling roses. The light is focussed downwards, whilst a warm light emanates from the top of the shade, which has its original painted white interior. The pendants are in good original condition, with a few age-related marks, which i have shown by photographing each pendant individually. The wooden board is used for hanging the lights, and is not part of the fixture, as the lights can be placed apart as desired.

raak is best known for their organic modern design of the 1960s and 1970s which combined glass and metals for a sophisticated futuristic style. The company was founded in 1954 by carel o.lockhorn, a previous employee of philips lighting eindhoven. Raak, means “to hit” in dutch, which implies design that precisely “hits the nail on the head”.
