Handwoven in wool and hailing from France circa 1940-1950, it’s both a rare collectible and one of an exciting new curation of works from this artist in Rug & Kilim’s European rug and tapestry collection.

On the Design:

“LE PETIT RAPPEL DES OISEAUX” (which translates to “The Little Reminder of the Birds”) is an expressive work of abstract impressionism, originating during a bold resurgence of the style among Potin’s works and the works of his contemporaries in post-modernist France. A blue and black border surrounds a dramatic figural depiction of birds, butterflies, and leaves in a tree, underscored by gold, chartreuse, and similar autumnal tones. Admirers of the craft will note the masterful use of colors in such a playful, almost positive negative use of bright and rich together—an outstanding way to create both whimsy and depth in the bold, graphic beauty of such an illustration.
