He was born at Jutphaas (now Nieuwegein) and learned to paint flowers in the early 1830s. He worked in Delft , Utrecht and Houten from 1835 and again in Utrecht from 1848. He later settled in Trieste in 1848. He died in 1887 at Celje in Slovenia, then Austria-Hungary.with gum arabic to intensify the colour. On thin card. The picture may have minor imperfections such as slight marks, toning, foxing, creasing or pinholes, commensurate with age.
