Late 19th C. Blanket Chest / Trunk / Tool Chest, distinguished by exceptional and well-preserved paint finish in Carolina blue and an alligator grain in chestnut + burnt orange.

Dovetail construction, original hardware. Closes smartly with a nice weight.

And, particularly appealing, the interior is immaculate - set up like a traditional tool chest with a lidded upper box for small items.

We have a weakness for case goods, particularly trunks. So much so that my husband has a stack of trunks in his home office because of the textures and colors they often bring.

Paint finish case goods are often like fine art on furniture. This is one of those - and the only one we have owned that mirrors an alligator or crocodile grain on a traditional blue ground. And every panel is decorated - also unusual.

It comes from a very fine Virginia home with a history of travel, so we expect it is either a very well cared-for heirloom or a fine discovery on a trip abroad.
