alphonse dargent (xix-xx) was born in verdun in the meuse and was a portrait painter.

he was a pupil of cabanel and exhibited for the first time at the salon degli artisti in paris in 1874.

during his career he obtained a medal in 1882 and an honor at the universal exhibition of 1889.

the oil on canvas painting dates back to the nineteenth century and it is an artwork  of bisgart collection of antique paintings of the 19th century.
