Sheilah Graham was an American gossip columnist during Hollywood's Golden Age. It was at The Garden of Allah where she met novelist, F. Scott Fitzgerald. They would remain together until his death in 1940.
Opening in 1927 on the Sunset Strip, the legendary Garden of Allah Hotel became one of Hollywood’s most storied hideaways—a discreet retreat for actors, writers, and musicians seeking respite from Los Angeles. Time magazine famously described it as “more house party than hotel” during the intoxicating 1920s and ’30s. Though the hotel closed in 1959, its mystique endures. Notable guests included F. Scott Fitzgerald—who lived there intermittently from 1937–1938 while writing portions of The Last Tycoon—along with Clara Bow, Ernest Hemingway, Frank Sinatra, Groucho Marx, Lauren Bacall, and Ava Gardner.
