Schalmei ‘ice block’ wall lamp by julius theodor kalmar for kalmar, austria – 1972
textural modernist lighting in sculptural cast glass and nickel
designed by julius theodor kalmar and first featured in kalmar’s 1972 catalogue, the schalmei wall lamp—often referred to as the “ice block” model—exemplifies the viennese brand’s signature blend of luxurious materials and architectural form. The lamp features a deeply textured, embossed glass diffuser mounted to a nickel-plated metal frame.
the hand-finished glass evokes a sense of frozen movement, diffusing the light with a crystalline glow. Behind the glass are three e14 sockets, allowing for even and atmospheric illumination.
