Oil on canvas artwork depicting a religious subject of great charm, saint jerome in his study. He lived between the fourth and fifth centuries ad and is recognized as a father and doctor of the church. A great scholar, he devoted himself to translating the bible from greek to latin and in fact he is commonly depicted with an open book, immersed in study among objects that testify to his erudition. Note the quality with which the still life on the table was created, with coins, glasses and other everyday objects together with a skull, a typical memento mori for this type of composition. 20th century frame in carved and ebonized wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting in small spots. Overall in excellent preserved condition. Sight size h 112 x w 121 cm. See less
