This charming petite corner cupboard features glass doors over two shelves and is constructed of walnut with fruitwood inlay. Fanciful cherubs riding hippocampus adorn the graceful cornice, a vase of flowers decorates the bottom door with two more equestrian cherubs and a fanciful bellflower design is seen throughout. A very whimsical piece.
The bottom door has a working lock and key. The two shelves measure 16 inches tall each x 12 inches deep at the back corner.
The water horse is a mythological creature with the front half of a horse and the tail of a serpent or fish. It is also known as the hippocampus, which comes from the Greek words hippos -horse and kampos- sea monster. The water horse is often depicted in carvings and appears in Greek and Roman mythology.
