The middle part of the lamp is a cranberry red color. It has a very subtle optic effect that is hard to describe. It reminds me of the way sunlight bounces off the ripples on the surface of a swimming pool on a summer day -- except you have to imagine the water as a cranberry red color, of course!

Electrical works.

The base is a beautiful piece of opalescent milk glass made by Atterbury Glass Co. in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Atterbury called this translucent shimmering form of milk glass "gem glass." Atterbury was only operational from 1860 to 1902.

No chips or cracks on the red glass. There is some wear to the red color (which was flashed on over clear glass). Most of that wear looks like swipe marks, probably caused by decades upon decades of being wiped clean on dusting day. There are a few small marks that look more like scratches, but you can't feel them with a fingernail. See close up photos of the red part - they show the condition pretty well.

As for the opalescent milk glass part, there is one shallow glancing chip which is very hard to see. (See close up photos - the chip is directly in front of my fingertip). The fact that this stunningly beautiful lamp base has survived for at least 120 years with only one small shallow chip is nothing short of a miracle.

Electrical works. Exceptionally fine condition for a piece that's well over 100 years old. (Of course, the electrical parts are not that old).

Opalescent glass base measures about 4 1/2" X 4 1/2". With the harp in place, measures about 19 1/4" tall up to the tip of the finial.
