Still drying on my easel, Estuaries No. 02, the second in a series celebrating the labyrinths off shooting munificent waters and waterways, where nurseries of swimming things and grasses flourish.
As a Maryland native, I spent my childhood wading through the shallows of the coastal Chesapeake, net in hand, in search of soft shell crabs. I often got my toes nibbled on or the unfortunate tickle then sting of a sneaky jelly. For some reason, all the cousins erupted in laughter anytime someone got stung. I guess every family has their own flavor of coping with pain and the realities of salt life.
This piece is one that Id like to keep but I simply have no more wall space.
Estuaries (No. 01) is larger and painted about ten years ago. That piece made the cut (out of 500 submissions) for the Strokes Of Genius North American show through Maryland Federation of Art. The juror was from the Corcoran in DC and it was a milestone in my artistic journey.
Ten plus layers of paint/washes make this piece. There’s some really nice texture that is hard to capture in a photo. A restful piece, with a pop of warmth.
