About the Artist B. A. Sholokhov
Boris Anatolyevich Sholokhov (1919–2003) (Russian: Бори́с Анато́льевич Шо́лохов) was a distinguished Russian painter, graphic artist, and educator. Born in Borisoglebsk, his artistic path began under the mentorship of his uncle, P.I. Sholokhov, a notable artist. He went on to study at the Leningrad Academy of Arts and later the Moscow Surikov Art Institute, where he was taught by renowned masters such as Dmitry Korin, Dmitry Oreshnikov, Semyon Chuikov, Vladimir Yakovlev, and Alexei Gritsai. His education was briefly interrupted by his service in World War II, after which he resumed his studies and solidified his place in the art world.
From the 1950s onwards, Sholokhov actively exhibited his work in both national and solo exhibitions, earning recognition for his expertise in portraiture and large-scale genre compositions. In addition to his artistic accomplishments, he became a professor of painting at the Moscow Polygraphic Institute, shaping the next generation of artists. He was also a member of the Union of Artists and held a Candidate of Art History degree.
Sholokhov's legacy lives on through his works, which are housed in major collections such as the State Museum of the Revolution in Moscow, the Surikov Art Institute, the Moscow Art Collection, and various museums in Penza, Borisoglebsk, and Livadia (Crimea). His contributions left a lasting mark on Soviet and Russian art.
