Plinio Colombi born in February 1873 in Ravecchia.
He died in September 1951 in Spiez.
He was a Swiss painter and graphic designer.
He was the son of Enrico Colombi and Hedwig Huber.
After his secondary studies in Lausanne, he began studying architecture at the Technikum Winterthur, but quickly moved towards artistic and craft training.
In 1897 he was in Paris. He then worked as a decorative painter in Bern and from 1899 he became an independent artist. In 1904, he married Marguerite Petter. He lived in various regions of the canton of Bern, from 1924 in Spiez, where he also died.
In 1939, the Kunsthalle Bern exhibited his works.
His models were Arnold Böcklin and Ferdinand Hodler.
He often chooses landscape motifs from the Lake Thun region but also still lifes, with a preference for thistles. His works include printmaking, painting, engraving, aquatint, lithography, woodcut, drawing and also posters.
This work of art depicts a majestic mountain scene, strikingly capturing the essence of nature in all its splendor. The imposing, majestic mountains dominate the center of the composition, their peaks bathed in a golden light that creates a striking contrast with the deep shadows of the valleys. The painter has skilfully used the play of light to accentuate the relief and contours of the mountains, bringing out their grandeur and robustness. The calm water in the foreground acts as a crystalline mirror, impeccably reflecting the verdant hues of the mountains and sky, adding extra depth and dimension to the composition. The smooth surface of the lake creates a sense of tranquility and peace, in contrast to the raw power of the mountains. The sky, dotted with a few fluffy clouds, adds a touch of dynamism to the whole. The colors used are strikingly realistic, with deep blues and lush greens, faithfully depicting the rugged beauty of this mountainous region. This painting stands out for its meticulous attention to detail and its mastery of light and shadow techniques to create a vibrant, lively scene. In short, this work is an impressive tribute to the natural majesty of the mountains and the serene tranquility of the waters that surround them.
