Dr Syntax present at a Coffee-house quarrel at Bath.
This print is one of a series of superb hand colored aquatints by Thomas Rowlandson, the satirist, which depicts the antics of Dr Syntax, a clerygyman who travels the countryside and gets up to all sorts of adventures, Rowlandson is perhaps the most famous British satirical cartoonist in history and Dr Syntax is one of his most famous creations.
Characters in the scene include a man with a wooden leg, a bar maid and a dog.
This very English work of art is in excellent condition. Mat is a warm taupe color set off beautifully by a gold tone and mahagony colored frame.
Print is approx 5 inches by 7.25 inches Frame size is 10.25 inches by 12 inches.
