designed by verner panton and produced by louis poulsen in 1968, the flowerpot pendant embodies panton’s fascination with simple geometric forms and bold color.

the lamp consists of two hemispherical enamelled steel shades in a 2:1 ratio—a large upper dome and a smaller lower dome with half the diameter. The upper shade directs light downwards, while the smaller shade conceals the bulb and reflects the light back upward, diffusing a soft, glare-free glow. This design reflects poul henningsen’s (ph) principles of comfortable, glare-free lighting with a warm, reddish tone to complement ambient illumination.

the flowerpot was originally offered in a polished steel finish and in high-gloss enamel colors including orange, red, turquoise, violet, white, and black, each paired with matching plastic cords. The interior of the upper shade was finished in white, while the lower shade was lacquered in orange or rose to produce a warm reflected light.

this example features blue and red enamelled steel shades, supported by a chromed steel three-pronged bulb cradle and fitted with the original louis poulsen white porcelain bulb socket, stamped “lp.”
