This exceptional 19th century Ottoman Empire (Turkey) hand-made soap box bathhouse hammam container, was used to transport ancient Kildan clay soap and washcloth when taking a communal Turkish bath.
From the first half of the 19th century, oversized, oval shaped brass handled, and hinged lid container, decorated in ornate embossed, hammered, and tooled whimsical zig zagging pattern, with a carry handle, and on the front a mounted latch, the top opening to reveal pierced openwork bottom, designed to allow for drainage for use in the bath. The beautifully aged copper/ tin provides a visually striking patina throughout and displays beautifully.
