This painting was purchased at auction many years ago as an unverified Jean Marc Nattier. There are clues that lead us to believe its authenticity, particularly the handwritten note on the back: "This picture supposed to be one of the (Latris?) Berkeley was given to us in 1902 February by the Revd Henry Mitchell Vicar of Bosham (illegible name) 1902."
Henry Mitchell (b. 1845) was a Vicar of Holy Trinity, Bosham Parish, West Sussex, England
Maybe YOU have connections to an art historian or a way to better authenticate this piece and add not JUST a beautiful addition to your collection, but an incredible steal!
It measures 2' 5 1/4" x 2' 9 3/4" framed and compliments both modern and rustic interior spaces well.
Frame in really good condition (few tiny nicks), age unknown (1920's?), wood with gesso (plaster) made to look like wood with metal corners. Brass name plate at bottom.
