Acrylic on canvas with applied carved wood four fingered hand at lower right, signed and dated 1974 at lower left. This piece is an early work from the artist's "Found Object" series. Kurt Larisch was born in Vienna, Austria. As an artist, he was influenced by his father who was a miniature painter, photographer, and antique collector. Establishing himself as a graphic artist, Larisch became a graphic artist and a pioneer in the field of animated film. In 1938 Larisch relocated to England, then India where he became the art director of one of India’s most progressive advertising agencies. He moved to New York around 1947 and opened his own graphic art studio. In 1970, he moved his family to Mexico where he developed his own unique surreal style such as the one represented here. In Mexico, Larisch became a celebrated contemporary artist.

Condition: Pen mark and shallow dent with marking at lower right above hand; handle with loss to one finger. Damage and looseness to frame. See less
