This exquisite spelter lamp is a testament to the artistry of Louis and Francois Moreau, renowned siblings from Dijon, France. Louis, a master of bronze and metal sculptures, and Francois, a talented painter and sculptor, together crafted this captivating piece that blends their artistic talents into one harmonious creation.
The sculpture portrays a young boy with thick, curly hair standing barefoot on a rugged rock, beside a fluted column adorned with a floral vine and supporting an urn. Clad in a light green shirt, brown shorts, and a straw hat resting casually on his back, he gently holds a delicate flower in his left hand.
During World War II, the original mold for this sculpture was carefully concealed to protect them from the Nazis. After the war, J.B. Hirsch traveled to Europe to recover these precious molds, bringing them to the United States to ensure their enduring legacy. The lamp is signed "L&F Moreau" and features a seal marked "Collection Connoisseur."
